The Algarve does not close for winter. The crowds thin, the roads empty, and the region settles into the season its regulars quietly prefer, one that is mild, unhurried and considerably better value.
For anyone staying through those months, it is also the best time of year to have a proper car at your disposal.
Winter in the Algarve
December through February brings daytime temperatures that rarely trouble a jacket, golf courses at their most playable, and coastal roads free of high-season traffic.
It is the season that draws seasonal residents, long-stay visitors and golfers who have worked out that the Algarve in January is a very different proposition from the Algarve in August.
The driving in particular is transformed. Routes that are slow and crowded in summer, like the coast road west toward Sagres or the climbs into Monchique, are close to empty.
Off-Season Rates, December to February
Demand falls in the winter months, and our rates follow. Rentals taken across December, January and February are quoted at preferential off-season rates, with the strongest value on longer bookings.
Because rates depend on the vehicle and the length of the stay, off-season pricing is quoted individually rather than published as a fixed discount. Send us your dates and we will come back with the seasonal rate for the car you want.
The Six-Month Seasonal Plan
For those staying the full winter, we publish a dedicated six-month seasonal rental running October through March.
It is built for seasonal residents and long winter stays, with a preferential seasonal rate held for the full term and the running of the car handled entirely by us:

Shorter seasonal terms, such as a single month or the December to February core of the winter, are arranged on request.
Which Cars Suit a Winter Stay
Winter here is mild rather than harsh, which keeps the whole fleet in play. A luxury SUV such as the BMW X5, Volvo XC90 or Range Rover Sport is the natural choice for a long stay, with the space and comfort for visiting family and longer inland drives.
That said, some of the best driving days of the year fall in February, when the roads are quiet and the light is low and clear. Convertibles and sports cars are far from out of place.
